Moving between servers or hosting providers can sometimes be a difficult task. In this article, we will go through the steps you need to follow to transfer your website to us.

  1. Choosing between registering, transferring, and hosting a domain
  2. Pointing your domain to our servers
  3. Uploading your files
  4. Creating a database

Choosing between registering, transferring, and hosting a domain

Before you proceed with your website migration you must decide if you would like to keep using your current domain (if you have one) or if you would like to register a new one. If you would like to register a new domain for your website you can do that via the domain registration page on our website or via the Domain Manager located in your Hosting Control Panel. You can read our article How to register a Domain if you need further assistance.

However, if you already have a domain and you would like to keep using it, for one reason or another, you can do that as well. You can read our article regarding the difference between transferring and hosting a domain. We have also described the process in our articles How to transfer a domain and How to host a domain.

Pointing your domain to our servers

If you have decided to host your domain with us you will also have to point it to our servers. This can be done by changing your domain name servers or manually configuring your domain DNS records. You can read the article How to find your domain Name Servers which will help you find the name servers needed to point your domain to us. A more detailed guide for pointing your domain can be found here.

Uploading your files

Your website files can be uploaded either via our File Manager or an FTP client. However, you should know that the File Manager does not support folder uploads. Therefore you might want to upload your files via FTP. You can also upload an archive for your files and then extract it via the File Manager.

Creating a database

If your website uses a database you will also have to create one from the Database Manager. You can read our guide on How to create a database if you need further assistance. Once you have created your database you can import your website data. And last but not least make sure to update your website config file to use your new database.
