Probably most of us are familiar with the proverb “Don’t judge a book by its cover”, but most of us do it anyway. For this reason, it’s important to find the best ways to grab a viewer’s attention and stand out from competitors. The right way of applying typography allows the design of your textual elements to stand out when competing with other visual components for the attention of the viewers.

  • Using different font sizes and contrast will draw attention to the most important words on the page as long as it’s right placed. For example, placing the most important information in the center will most likely attract the viewer’s
  • Clear visual hierarchy – Another characteristic of typography that will not only grab the viewer’s attention but also make textual elements easily readable, and visually appealing is a clear visual hierarchy of information. By guiding a viewer’s eye to a page’s most vital textual elements, whether it’s a heading, subheading, or body text.

Promote brand recognition

The design elements such as typography, logo, and colors help customers quickly recognize and associate them with a particular brand.

Typography is related to the choice of fonts, styles, and sizes of the messages you want to deliver to your audience. This, in turn, will provoke different emotions in the audience.

Choosing the style of typography will give personality to your design that aligns with your brand identity and values. This way you can influence how your audience perceives and relates to your brand. By indicating whether the design of the brand is playful, warm, mysterious, edgy, youthful, etc.

Conclusion

Typography is the art and technique of arranging type to make written language legible, readable, and appealing when displayed. Besides being used as a communication tool, typography also plays a crucial role in graphic and web design.

In graphic design, typography includes the creation of visual content for various print and digital media. For example, banners, billboards, signs, magazine articles, letters, and posters. While in web design includes the creation of websites and web pages.

No matter if it is web design or graphic design, when choosing the style of typography you need to consider factors such as brand personality and visual appeal.
